A gem
I just copied the
title to Borlette’s comment to one of my blogs. Borlette, or Lette as
we fondly call her, was trying to say what I am to her. In her words,
she called me a "gem". According to my bestfriend Merriam-Webster, a
gem is a highly prized or well-beloved person, if you’re relating to
one. Knowing what she had to say made me feel so lucky to have a
friend like her. She’s been so real towards me all along, despite the
proximity and the distance we still managed to maintain a mutual
friendly relationship. We are actually worlds apart, she’s currently
living in Belgium with her loving husband and I’m here in the not so
laid back queen city of the south, Cebu. Exchanging messages from our
online forum and sometimes a whacky voice chat over the net. I haven’t
actually met her in person yet, but it feels like having her since time
immemorial. I’m not really sure why we managed to grow a simple and
yet real friendship. One thing could be, transparency. We don’t put a
facade toward each other. We share problems with families, friends,
and ordinary things that spice up our daily existence.
People
doesn’t really need to put much pressure on how a relationship can
work. We just have to be palpable, in this case others would know to
deal with you.
I
know, it’s hard to find real people. As Alanis would put it: "it’s
like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife". Ironic as it
may seem, but that’s reality. And if you ever find a gem, regardless
of how you found it, treasure it. For they come not in a bagful, but
in a single piece of a needle in a haystack.
